CHALLENGE

Kilted Donut returned to us once again, this time to create a new home on Leith Walk, the very place where the brand began. The location, a prime corner site, provided a perfect opportunity to reimagine the Kilted Donut experience while maintaining the core identity established in previous stores. The challenge was to adapt their signature industrial-meets-playful style in a way that felt unique to the Leith area, balancing bold branding with a welcoming café environment.​

APPROACH

For the Leith store, we adapted key elements from the Grassmarket and Morningside locations to fit the unique corner site while maintaining Kilted Donut’s evolving brand identity. The spacious shopfront features an oversized window with scattered bright orange lettering, making a bold statement on Leith Walk and ensuring the brand’s signature style stands out in this prime location.

 

A standout feature in this store is the custom wall lighting, designed in vibrant brand orange to create a striking contrast against the sleek black walls, adding a playful yet bold touch to the space. We also created bespoke WC signage, continuing the brand’s distinctive visual language. The store is designed with comfortable café-style seating, inviting customers to relax and enjoy their donuts, and we also created a dedicated back-of-house kitchen to streamline operations.

 

The custom carpentry for the counter was crafted specifically for this site, bringing in unique timber paneling to create a modern yet inviting focal point. The existing timber flooring was sanded and stained to match the aesthetic, adding warmth and cohesion to the space. The result is a harmonious blend of industrial charm and café comfort, completed within budget and on schedule.
