CHALLENGE

Nestled in the heart of Morningside, Kilted Donut returned to us to help create their newest home, building on the success of their Grassmarket site. This location offered a unique opportunity with its high ceilings, ornate cornicing, and exposed brick walls bursting with character. The challenge was to evolve Kilted Donut’s signature industrial-meets-playful style into a more spacious café environment, balancing their bold branding with the inviting, cozy feel required for a sit-in experience.

APPROACH

For the Morningside store, we evolved Kilted Donut’s identity to suit the site’s character, combining playful branding with cosy café comfort. The shopfront reflects the Grassmarket store, with grey paint and oversized bright orange lettering across the large window for high street impact.

 

The bespoke black wall sconces, shaped like the KD logo, are a standout feature, adding bold branding while illuminating the space. The original brick wall and timber flooring were retained and revived to enhance the spaces warmth and character. Custom carpentry, including the timber-panelled counter, high-bench seating, and vibrant banquette seating, ties the design together with comfort and cohesion. Playful orange accents and industrial details complete the inviting space, blending bold personality with practical charm.
