CHALLENGE
Our challenge was to commemorate our clients fourth business anniversary with a bold redesign of their existing space. Their aim was to create a distinctive barbershop, deviating from traditional styles, while maximising their available space. Their large open split-level unit boasted exposed floor-to-ceiling windows and a narrow pavement with a precarious dark staircase being the sole access point to the underutilised basement level. Our task was to help them create a more fitting environment, aligning with their organic growth and blossoming reputation, with the bold and brave brief of moving their much-loved brand and colour palette in a new direction.
APPROACH
Our approach was to create a bold and contemporary look that accurately reflected the brand's identity. We considered various finishes and features that would endure the test of time while maintaining a hygienic and easy-to-clean space. To divide the area, we reimagined the partition curtain, using metal chains in a bright, bold yellow and incorporating an arched entrance to provide clear demarcation between areas. The reception and waiting area feel welcoming and modern, complete with an integrated reception desk, and a beer font for guests to enjoy a cold drink before their appointment. The chain curtain allowed ample natural light to flood the rear of the shop, while adding a vibrant pop of colour, increasing its curb appeal thanks to the large glazed frontage. Bespoke benches created an inviting seating area for guests, and the crittall detail on the glazing adds an extra layer of privacy to the front of the shop for customers. We also managed to double the useable space by opening up the basement, making it inviting to customers. The position of the new structural staircase also allowed natural light to flood the basement.
RESULTS
The result is a modern and contemporary barbershop, with striking curb appeal despite a busy road junction, resulting in increased sales and footfall.
