ORSONA
Orsona is an experience-led jewellery concept in Edinburgh built around the ritual of choosing,
creating and personalising jewellery together.
Rather than approaching the project as a conventional retail environment, the ambition was to create a destination where the experience of making becomes as important as the finished piece. Customers can build bespoke charm bracelets, necklaces and accessories from hundreds of individual pieces, or visit the permanent jewellery bar for welded bracelets and chains turning what might ordinarily be a product purchase into something social, personal and memorable.
Significant Others worked across the brand and physical environment to translate this idea into a clear and distinctive customer experience. The interior was conceived around the journey from discovery to selection to making. Product is deliberately brought out to form the key feature of the experience, encouraging customers to browse, compare and compose their own combinations. The extensive charm collection becomes part of the visual identity of the space itself, transforming choice into a tactile and engaging part of the visit.
A long bespoke display counter creates a focal point for this interaction, while carefully organised trays and modular displays make hundreds of individual charms feel abundant without becoming overwhelming. The permanent jewellery station introduces another layer to the experience, allowing customers to move between browsing, personalisation and making within a relatively compact footprint.
The material palette is deliberately restrained. Pale timber, terrazzo flooring and softly textured neutral walls provide a calm backdrop to Orsona's vivid cobalt blue, which is used to define key moments throughout the space. Glass block, translucent materials and polished display surfaces introduce a subtle jewellery-like quality through light, reflection and repetition.
Brand and interior were developed as one experience rather than separate layers. Typography, illustration, colour and playful messaging move from the shopfront through to product displays and the permanent jewellery bar, creating moments of discovery as customers navigate the space.
The customer journey also informed the operational design. Browsing areas allow people to spend time considering combinations without obstructing service, while dedicated making and payment positions allow the team to move customers intuitively through the experience. This balance is particularly important for a concept where dwell time is desirable rather than something to be designed out.
At its heart, Orsona reflects a wider shift in physical retail. The reason to visit isn't simply access to a product, it's access to an experience that can't be replicated online. Whether visiting with friends, marking an occasion, choosing a gift or creating something individually, the process becomes part of the value. The finished jewellery is both the product and a reminder of the experience attached to it.
The result is a small-footprint retail environment designed around participation rather than transaction: distinctive, social and highly shareable, with an identity that extends seamlessly from brand to space to customer experience.
